Message from Federation of Calgary Communities re: Calgary Flood

June 25, 2013 8:28 PM | Leann Hackman-Carty
To all of our volunteers and members who have been evacuated and have suffered loss of property, my thoughts are with you and your families as you recover from this devasting flood.  I do hope that you find strength in seeing Calgarians pulling together in this terrible tradegy.

In many of the communities that have been evacuted, the community hall has been damaged or has suffered loss.  In addition, many of our community associations across the city have pledged space, support and resources to assist their fellow associations as well as citizens of Calgary but to date it hasn't been coordinated.  I am very proud to see the community association movement play an important role in helping our city and citizens recover.

To assist in coordinating needs and offers of support from our Community Association movement, the Federation has set up a Needs and Offers web page.  If you are a community in "need" please work with your CRC to identify remediation or clean up needs.  The CRC will let us know (but you can as well) and we will put it on our website and email our CA's to see if they can help.  Please note I have spoke with Neil Hogg, at Toole Peet, this morning and our program does have both flood and sewer back-up coverage.  They are working with AVIVA and the claims department to ensure they have a plan in place to respond to Federation policy claims and to make them a priority.  So if you need to make a claim, please call Neil Hogg at Toole Peet, 403-209-5428.

For communities who can "Offer" assistance like space, volunteers, items, etc. we are putting an "Offers" section up on the webpage.  In the "Offers" section, we would ask that you let your CRC and us know what you can pledge.  For example, the City of Calgary Daycare needs 4,000 square feet to run their daycare.  Do you have space?  We will have the CRC's coordinate the matching of "Needs and Offers" as they are on the ground in your communities.  Also, let us know if you are doing something to support your surrounding communities - we would like to track the impact of our network.

The "Needs and Offers" webpage is located here.

Let's pull together and support each other....stay tuned.
